The Track and Field Improvement project at Fernando Rivera Intermediate School revitalized a deteriorated athletic field to better support physical education and student recreation. The existing field suffered from uneven grading, poor drainage, and extensive gopher damage, resulting in typically unusable conditions.
The school’s goal was to create a simple, durable, and cost-effective field that would meet daily physical education needs and accommodate informal student sports. The project scope included:
-
New Natural Turf Field: Installation of new sod over properly regraded subgrade to provide a safe, level playing surface suitable for soccer and general recreation.
-
Irrigation System: Implementation of a new irrigation system to support healthy turf growth and long-term field maintenance.
-
Decomposed Granite (DG) Track: Construction of a low-maintenance DG track surrounding the field to accommodate running, walking, and PE activities.
-
Landscape Enhancements: New planting along the street frontage to improve the school’s curb appeal.
